Headline Comparison Table
| Destination | Flight time (non-stop) | Non-stop carriers DFW | Est. flights (family of 4) | Est. lodging 6 nights (suite, separate bedroom) | Est. total trip cost | Sargassum/weather risk | Beach swimmable for 1yo? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Riviera Maya / Cancun | ~2h 30m | AA, Southwest (DAL), Spirit, Frontier | 1,800 | 8,500 (AI, varies by resort) | 10,300 | Heavy sargassum risk (2026 is near-record year), heat/humidity high, hurricane low | Yes at sheltered bays (Maroma, Puerto Morelos, Akumal); avoid east-facing |
| Los Cabos | ~3h | American only | 2,400 | 9,000 (AI, varies by resort) | 11,400 | Very hot/dry, sea warm (80–83°F), occasional brief afternoon storms, hurricane risk rises in Aug | Mixed — most Cabo beaches NOT swimmable. Must pick resort on swimmable beach (Palmilla, Chileno, Medano, Cabo Real). |
| Turks & Caicos (Provo) | ~3h 45m–3h 55m | American Saturday only | 3,400 | 16,000 (huge range by resort) | 19,400 | Trade winds keep heat tolerable, low hurricane risk in late July, far less sargassum than Mexico | Yes — Grace Bay is world-class for toddlers (calm, reef-protected, shallow). |
Flight Reality Check (Big One for Turks & Caicos)
Cancun (CUN): Easy. 8–12 non-stop departures/day from DFW/DAL. Either date window works perfectly. AA, Southwest from DAL (lap infant free + 2 free bags is a real win), Spirit cheap-but-stripped.
Los Cabos (SJD): AA monopoly on non-stops from DFW (2–3/day). Either window works. ~80/adult cheaper in Window B.
Providenciales (PLS): ⚠️ Problem. AA's DFW→PLS non-stop is Saturday-only seasonal.
- Window A (Mon Jul 20 – Mon Jul 27): no non-stop matches.
- Window B (Thu Jul 30 – Thu Aug 6): no non-stop matches.
- Workarounds:
- Shift dates to Sat Jul 18 – Sat Jul 25, Sat Jul 25 – Sat Aug 1, or Sat Aug 1 – Sat Aug 8 to ride the non-stop.
- Otherwise, 1-stop routing through MIA or CLT = 6–9 total travel hours, exceeds your 4-hour rule by a wide margin.
- The return non-stop is ~4h 05m–4h 15m — slightly over your 4-hour cap even on the good day.

Recommendation
Top pick: Azul Beach Resort Riviera Maya by Karisma, Window B (7/30–8/6).
Why:
- Genuinely engineered for babies. Gerber baby food in every restaurant, sterilizers, bottle warmers, cribs, strollers, baby monitors — all included. Family Swim-Up Suite is exactly the "separated bedroom" you asked for, and the kids can swim from the suite into a shared pool channel.
- Easiest logistics. 2h 30m non-stop from DFW, ~1,800 in flights, no Saturday-departure constraint, passport-only entry.
- Cost-controlled. ~8,200 estimated trip total — middle of the road, with the highest baby/toddler value-per-dollar of any option.
Honorable mentions:
- Beaches Turks & Caicos if budget isn't the constraint and you'd shift your dates to Sat–Sat to get the non-stop. The 0–24mo nursery is unique in the Caribbean and gives you actual parent-time on vacation. Plan on 20k total all-in.
- Hyatt Ziva Cancun as a more conservative pick — slightly less baby-tailored than Azul, but cheaper, more familiar brand, and Camp Hyatt is solid for the 4yo.
To avoid:
- Turks & Caicos on your current dates — the non-stop flight constraint disqualifies it unless you shift to a Saturday cadence.
- Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos — gorgeous resort but beach un-swimmable; with a 1yo the pool-only constraint is a real downside.
Sargassum (Mexico-specific) — Worth Reading
USF's 2026 sargassum outlook projects this as a near-record year. Peaks across the Riviera Maya in July, easing slightly in August. East-facing beaches (Tulum, Playa del Carmen open coast) hit hardest. Mitigations:
- Pick a sheltered/protected beach: Maroma (Mayakoba area), Puerto Morelos reef-protected, north-facing Cancun Hotel Zone, Akumal cove. Azul Beach RM is in Puerto Morelos = reef-protected.
- Resorts with daily beach-raking and offshore booms (Moon Palace, Grand Velas, Hyatt Ziva, Karisma) keep their beaches cleaner than open public stretches.
- Pools are not affected. Worst case, you swim in the pool and walk past raked seaweed to the beach.
Turks & Caicos faces almost none of this — Grace Bay sits outside the main Sargasso belt.
Passport & Entry
- All four family members need valid US passports for any of these destinations. Apply now if anyone (especially the 1yo) doesn't have one — current routine processing is 4–6 weeks (2–3 weeks expedited).
- Mexico: digital FMM tourist card included with airline ticket; no advance form.
- Turks & Caicos: digital "TCI Travel Authorization" required pre-flight (free, ~10 min/traveler).
Next Steps
- Decide: destination + window (my recommendation: Azul Beach RM, Window B).
- Verify live pricing via:
- Costco Travel (often best bundled rate; flights + resort packaged)
- Apple Vacations or CheapCaribbean (similar bundling)
- Resort direct (sometimes matches; check loyalty perks if you have Hyatt status, AmEx FHR, etc.)
- Book travel insurance with a hurricane/CFAR rider — late July is historically quiet but it's still hurricane season.
- If choosing T&C: decide whether to shift dates to Sat–Sat for the non-stop, or accept 1-stop routing.
